How to keep android safe and secure

The popularity of Android devices seems evident from its 48% hold in thesmartphone market. Being an open source operating system, it evidently remains vulnerable to cyber crime and hacking. With increasing number of downloadable Android apps, the concern for keeping your device healthy and protected can be demanding.
What’s your Device
Android can be a tempting platform for both users and hackers alike. Going by March 2011 data, about 260,000 devices got infected creating security concerns. With the credible community of developers, there has been a boost to Android based utility apps and functionality providing easy and appealing avenues for users.
It is practical to know your device in a closer context (if you are already not aware of the smart phone features). Much of the resolution to security concerns is obtainable by knowing your gadget and its functionality. Even though no application can be 100% secure, you can watch out for the android phone updates providing latest security platforms to your device.
Adopt simple security measures like password and backup of (important) files. Avoidrooting your device. Instead of surrendering to the easily accessible applications, judge their credibility and usability before allowing them to access your device. Rely on the official android market for applications. It can be dangerous to increase vulnerability by risking your confidential information.
Being open to endless applications does not necessarily mean you should attempt all. Be selective and logical and stick to those you actually need. Do some research before exposing yourself to keep potential threats at bay.
Your smartphone’s security features can also play significantly in keeping the phone safe. Consider configuring its location and security settings in order to keep the phone from falling into wrong hands. Important considerations include keystroke pattern, password lock option and fingerprint lock option. Keep away from unsecured Wi-Fi connectivity and other unreliable sources. Open wireless networks can be detrimental to the crucial data in your device.
Tips to Deal with Security Concerns
There can be several techniques to handle security threats and viruses to keep your device in the pink of its health.
Applications
There are many applications which can secure Android phones from bugs, Trojans and viruses. The Lookout Security & Anti-virus app for Android is one such application. It can protect your device from local network or online threats. With the application, you can also protect crucial data and locate phone (if misplaced). It also facilitates backup for your important files and documents. Its ‘Routine Check’ feature allows you to schedule scan of the downloadable apps.
Another useful Android based application is the AVG Antivirus. This popular software enables to scan apps, set files and media card (in real time) and deal with threats like Trojan and spyware. The incoming screening of SMS is another useful attribute of this software. The AVG Antivirus is an advantage for your device as it ensures maximum speed of your phone by implementing a task manager to kill off any apps and tasks that slow the device down.
A renowned mobile protection app, McAfee WaveSecure, can be your rescuer in the event you lose your mobile. It is an award-winning app which can track your device and also wipe data from getting accessed by hackers. It can serve the preferred portal to backup and restore personal data.
The Norton Antivirus & Security is another security application for Android devices ( iOS 2.1 and above). It can be implemented in case of theft and malware attacks. The leading software company’s application can do many tasks including searching and removing mobile security threats and remote wiping of data.
There are many other promising applications, like Avast Mobile Security and NQ Mobile Security & Antivirus to keep your device and data safe. Judicious usage of the device can minimize potential threats although it is better to be prepared with a support system before the hue and cry begins.

Google Drive | Introducing Google Drive | What is Google Drive

Just like the Loch Ness Monster, you may have heard the rumors about Google Drive. It turns out, one of the two actually does exist.
Today, we’re introducing Google Drive—a place where ou can create, share, collaborate, and keep all of your stuff. Whether you’re working with a friend on a joint research project, planning a wedding with your fiancé or tracking a budget with roommates, you can do it in Drive. You can upload and access all of your files, including videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs and beyond.

With Google Drive, you can:
  • Create and collaborate. Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once you choose to share content with others, you can add and reply to comments on anything (PDF, image, video file, etc.) and receive notifications when other people comment on shared items.
  • Store everything safely and access it anywhere (especially while on the go). All your stuff is just… there. You can access your stuff from anywhere—on the web, in your home, at the office, while running errands and from all of your devices. You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet. We’re also working hard on a Drive app for your iOS devices. And regardless of platform, blind users can access Drive with a screen reader.
  • Search everything. Search by keyword and filter by file type, owner and more. Drive can even recognize text in scanned documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Let’s say you upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping. You can search for a word from the text of the actual article. We also use image recognition so that if you drag and drop photos from your Grand Canyon trip into Drive, you can later search for [grand canyon] and photos of its gorges should pop up. This technology is still in its early stages, and we expect it to get better over time.
You can get started with 5GB of storage for free—that’s enough to store the high-res photos of your trip to the Mt. Everest, scanned copies of your grandparents’ love letters or a career’s worth of business proposals, and still have space for the novel you’re working on. You can choose to upgrade to 25GB for $2.49/month, 100GB for $4.99/month or even 1TB for $49.99/month. When you upgrade to a paid account, your Gmail account storage will also expand to 25GB.

Drive is built to work seamlessly with your overall Google experience. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon you’ll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail. Drive is also an open platform, so we’re working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxesedit videos andcreate website mockups directly from Drive. To install these apps, visit the Chrome Web Store—and look out for even more useful apps in the future.
This is just the beginning for Google Drive; there’s a lot more to come.
Get started with Drive today at drive.google.com/start

Steps to Install Official Gingerbread UBKPI 2.3.6 Firmware in Samsung galaxy fit , Samsung galaxy pop, Samsung galaxy ace

Essential Pre Requisites:
  • Backup all the data present in your FIT S5670L  as in the process of applying this firmware, the data in the device may get deleted or corrupted.
ADVISORY (Not for India users): Don’t backup the data using the KIES as after the update KIES won’t be detecting your phone as its not Official firmware for your region.
Text messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Phone Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Pictures, Music, Videos, Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Notes – Manually you need to note down or need to transfer to Evernote.

  • Battery left in the device should be a minimum of 60% so as to ensure that the device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update. Enable the USB Debugging in your device from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
USB Debugging
So, assuming that all the above instructions are followed successfully you are now ready to proceed with the procedure mentioned in the next page.

Procedure to Update Galaxy FIT S5670L with Gingerbread 2.3.6:
  • Download the Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware Zip Package to your computer. In the process of extraction, you will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password as “androidadvices.com”.
Enter Password
  • Once you extract the files, you need to check with the extracted files from the below mentioned screen capture. Even if single file is missing, you need to check with the extraction or download process. The file size of the zip package is 108.9 MB.
Extracted Files UBKPI
  • From extracted files, open Odin executable file and turn Off the phone so as to enter the device in the download mode.
Odin for FIT
  • The download mode can be entered by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. If the device boots up in the normal mode then you need to again try entering the download mode.
  • Connect the phone to the computer while keeping the Odin opened. Within a minute, the ID : COM section will turn yellow which will mean that all the drivers have been successfully installed and you are now ready to proceed to the next step. If ID : COM section doesn’t turn yellow then you need to check with the USB Drivers as well as the KIES tool.
  • Now, Click on the “OPS” option in the Odin to select the below mentioned file, tick on “One Package” option and then select the One Package option as mentioned below.
OPS – BENI_v1.0.ops

ONE PACKAGE – S5670LUBKPI_S5670LUJKPI_S5670LCHLKP4_HOME.tar.md5
  • Click on the “Start” tab to start the process of firmware update. Once the firmware is updated successfully, the device will be rebooted automatically. Once you see the home screen, you now need to  turn Off the phone so as to enter the device in the recovery mode.
Select Files
  • Select “Wipe data / Factory Reset” and “Wipe cache partition” to clear all the cache files if any present in your phone. After this, select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select the option of “Reboot System Now” for restarting the device.
Just in case if you face any issues in the process of firmware update or if the process gets interrupted, you will then have to reapply the whole process of firmware update.
To check whether the firmware is updated successfully or not, you need to check the same from the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OS where it will show UBKPI 2.3.6. If the firmware version is different then that means the firmware wasn’t updated successfully and you need to apply the same again.
